Congratulations to the SWQ Open Women’s team on their fantastic 6 – 3 win over Brisbane City Cobras in the final at the State Champs yesterday. Finishing in 4th position after the round games, the girls defeated last year’s winners, Sunshine Coast Pineapples, 7 – 5 in the semi-final. With that great win under their belt, the girls were full of confidence going into the decider and were keen to revenge their drop-off loss to the Cobras girls in the NTL final earlier this year. Whilst it was a great team effort, Emilee Cherry was at her absolute best and thoroughly deserved her Player of the Final award. Great work girls, their coach, Kathy O’Brien, and the support crew of Kate McCarthy and Caitlyn Costello.
Well done to every SWQ team who participated at the State Champs and to the coaches and managers who put in a lot of effort in the lead-up to and during the event. A special thanks to our physios, Dirk Baxendell and Sarah Lewis and to our massage therapist, Jess Moore, all of whom did an enormous job to keep our players fit and on the paddock.
Thanks also to QTA for the work they did to ensure the tournament was a success and to Garry Shepherd and his crew at SQBD (Sharks) for providing a great facility.
